Save William’s Halloween Ball 2013

Categories: Blog

Browsing the local papers last year, I stumbled upon an article about a lady I recognised from my high school days. Kelly Magee, she talked about the horrific disorder her son William had been born with (Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy) and how she had been raising funds via her Charity Save William ever since William had been diagnosed four years ago.

I personally hadn’t heard about this disorder before, and the more I read about the illness, the more I felt compelled to do what I could to help Kelly reach her goal, which is ultimately to find a cure, but at the very least to ease these horrific effects for her son and to provide for him a much better quality of life as this disorder progresses.
All of the proceeds Kelly’s charity (Save William) raises goes direct to its mother charity Duchenne Now, who fund medicines that have a clear and direct route to market that will go to helping this generations children with Duchenne’s.

After meeting with Kelly, I wanted to help as much as I could and so donated a none profit night to be hosted by Second Skin Events where all proceeds would go to Save William and so the HALLOWEEN BALL was born.

Our aim, to raise as much awareness as we could about the disorder, raise as much cash, but also to see if we could get Save William as a named chosen charity for 2014.
The Spooky settings of the Leasowe Castle Hotel (www.leasowecastle.com) were chosen and the date was set for Saturday 5th October.
After ringing around Second Skin Events very supportive business network, we had a flurry of businesses all wanting to do their bit and show support for Kelly and her son William.
We had a fantastic set of raffle prizes donated for the evening, our top prize was a £300.00 holiday voucher from Rita Hunter Travel (@ritahunter2, www.ritahuntertravel.co.uk), having used Rita Hunter Travel for a romantic trip to Rome, I know our winner of this is in for a real treat. Rita has a keen eye for detail and an ability to deliver the exact type of holiday you wish for.
This was followed by a £100.00 none surgical beauty voucher from JohnParkerAesthetics (@JPAesthetics, www.aestheticsbyjohnparker.co.uk ) John, what can I say about John, well first of all, yes I do use him (shhhhh) his talent is to turn back the clock rejuvenate your skin to reflect more the age we feel rather than are starting to look! He has been practicing for many years now and is in the top 5 practitioners in the UK. I wouldn’t dream of going elsewhere.
Then we had a tooth whitening treatment valued at £99.99 from Maxine at Sure Smiles (@Lady_Galavanic, www.sure-smiles.co.uk) Again, tried and tested, Max is an amazing lady who looks after her patients, as well as their teeth and gums very well. 6 shades brighter I left with, I’m sure our winner of this is over the moon with their new dazzling smile.
Other raffle and spot prizes where given out on the night including amazing hair care donations from GD Hair (@gd_hair, www.gd-hair.com) our events organiser Claire wont let anyone else touch her locks. We had Tea for two donated from ChaBar (@chabarwestkirby) and a family ticket to Alton towers and much much more. We cannot thank all of you enough for helping to raise awareness such a worth while cause.
Decorating the venue, we had an amazing donation of real spooky ghouls from Charles Taylor Auctions in Manchester (www.charlestaylor.co.uk) – The room looked great guys, not forgetting the 25, yes 25 pumpkins we had donated for our table centre pieces from Church farm (www.churchfarm.org.uk www.facebook.com/pages/Scareshow-at-Church-Farm/374169339731), wow , that was some fun evening with our production line,  scooping, slicing and dicing, we are now expert pumpkin carvers!!

We raised over £500.00 on the night for the cause, and I am pleased to announce that Clovers Coffee shop in Greasby Wirral (www.facebook.com/pages/Clovers-Cafe/144244785748790) have named Save William as its chosen charity of 2014! What a fantastic result from an outstanding night.
I recall many of you commenting on the fantastic band on the night, they’re called Cactus Juice, and were very kindly donated to the event from Tansworth Productions (http://www.tansworthproductions.com), Tansworth have so many amazing artists on the books, and have been showing fantastic support to Second Skin Events charity events throughout 2013. A massive thank you Tansworth on behalf of all the charities. Be sure to check them out if you are looking for the perfect entertainment for your event!
On behalf of Second Skin Events I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who attended the ball. The effort on everyones outfits was unreal. You made the night you really did…
MASSIVE well done to all of our raffle and spot prize winners, and to you, The Mad Hatter for winning our best dressed!
